Executive Therapy

The professional executive therapist combines psychological expertise with an understanding of the demands of business leaders
to provide excellence in treatment and care.

Business Coaches are not enough.

For decades it has been common place for executives to work 1:1 with business coaches. Since the pandemic, a new trend has emerged – executives working 1:1 with licensed professional counselors.

Personal matters come up during coaching sessions. Executive coaches typically don’t have formal psychological training to process or support mental or emotional issues that may arise, or recognize when a psychological symptom may be an indicator of a mental health condition.

Counseling Expertise + Business Acumen

The professional executive therapist combines psychological expertise with their experience in the business world to provide excellence in the delivery of treatment and care. Being aware of the demands and pressures of business leaders, the challenges of managing direct reports and teams, the professional therapist equips the executive with skills and tools to effectively manage stress and maximize communication skills.

Exploring Executive Therapy

Approach

The counseling relationship is a “co-partnership”, whereby the counselor and client are committed to the counseling process and agree to take responsibility to do their best to make the counseling process meaningful and successful. It is essential that the counseling relationship is a “good fit”,  whereby the client experiences a positive connection with the counselor, an internal sense of trust and a feeling of “she gets me”. Conversely, the counselor is confident she can help the executive with their needs, concerns and situations.

Thus, when considering an ongoing counseling relationship, an initial 75-minute, in person session, is conducted to determine the fit. A day and time is mutually agreed upon, initial counseling forms are sent to the client, completed and then emailed back to the counselor a couple of days prior to the scheduled session. The fee for the session is $395., and paid in advance via check or PayPal.

At the end of the initial session, the counselor shares with the client whether or not they can be of help and support to the client. The client can decide either at the end of the session or a few days later if it feels like the right fit for them. No commitment has to be made at the initial session.

If it is a “go” for both, the next step is to determine the counseling package.

Note: Counseling can be in person or via zoom. If the location is within 20 miles, preference is given to in person, if possible. This is because research shows in person counseling has more positive outcomes. However, it is noted this is not always possible given the time and travel demands of executives.
